Pain Management & the Opioid Epidemic

For the past 150 years, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) has employed over 300 Nobel Laureates to advise U.S. policy and lead the world through open access to their research.

NASEM’s 500-page report, Pain Management and the Opioid Epidemic: Balancing Societal and Individual Benefits and Risks of Prescription Opioid Use, outlines key take aways and recommendations aimed at solving the nation’s leading cause of accidental death: opioid overdose.

Balancing patient’s legitimate pain management needs against an ever-growing wave of addiction remains a challenge for both healthcare providers and government, alike. Any effective solution will require a united effort from all stakeholders — pain researchers, pharmaceutical companies, health care providers, state and federal policy makers.

By translating the report to a microsite, users are able to digest the information more intuitively, making the information more accessible, therein a solution that much more probable.
