Center for American Entrepreneurship

The Center for American Entrepreneurship (CAE) researches and advocates alongside policymakers at the federal, state, and local levels to promote the formation and growth of new businesses. In addition to the design of multiple campaigns and research reports on entrepreneurship trends and roadblocks, CAE received a re-brand and site overhaul to inform, educate, and build relationships with key decision-makers.

Rise of the Global Startup City

Richard Florida, author of The Rise of the Creative Class, and Ian Hathaway, Research Director at the Center for American Entrepreneurship (CAE), collaborated to create the “Rise of the Global Startup City” report. The report emphasizes the rise in startup and venture capital activity abroad in Asia, Europe, and elsewhere–what the authors call the global startup revolution–that is challenging the United States’ singular dominance as the location for modern, high-tech startups and entrepreneurship.

The digital story and report received attention from media outlets like BloombergAxiosInc.the SF Chronicle and The Washington Post, while Richard Florida and Ian Hathaway placed an Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal that highlighted the report’s main findings as a Saturday Essay.

This is certainly the most beautiful report I have ever been a part of. And probably the most beautiful report I have ever seen.

The Ascent Of Women-founded Venture-backed Startups In The United States

The Ascent Of Women-founded Venture-backed Startups In The United States, analyzed data on women-lead businesses in the United States.

The research found that between 2005 and 2017, women-founded companies made up only 16% of all venture-capital funding, despite the fact that women-founded companies perform as well as, if not better than, non-women-founded companies. The good news is the number of women-founded startups has been steadily increasing in recent years, showing promise for up-and-coming female entrepreneurs.
